UFO’s and a New Kid in Town!!!

tap….tap….tap….hello? Oh it’s been quiet in here!!! The end of one year and beginning of another sure throws us all into a tizzy. I think it will be March before some of my co workers recover from “the end of the year!” Last time I talked about UFO’s and goals for the new year. I am not one to trot out my resolutions for the year because in my experience most of those fall by the wayside before 30 days is up. I do however have some areas of my life where I am trying to slow down and take time to smell the roses. I have a tendency to be a project girl always with the end in sight and focused on the fastest way to get there, I am realizing it’s not always about the results but what you learn in the process. I’m working on it. And so I gathered my UFO’s for a group shot and thought I would show you what’s on my needles….

As you can see I have several things to choose from when it’s time to knit. I have an hour for lunch at the new job so I am hoping to get a few stitches in here and there at lunchtime. I must remember it’s about the process! At home however knitting has not been the first thing on my mind! As of last Monday there is a new kid in town and boy am I in LOVE!!! Her name is Sabrina and and she is the newest wheel introduced by Carson Cooper. She is a single treadle double drive folding travel wheel made out of Claro and Eastern Walnut accented with just a touch of maple burl. She has an iron wheel and flyer and weighs in at less then 8lbs. The Sabrina is also available in Cherry and Birdseye Maple and other woods depending on availability so the weight may vary a little. Anyone who knows me knows I am picky about my wheels. I have owned and sold an Ashford traditional, Lendrum folding wheel, Majacraft Rose, Fricke S-160DT, Ashford traveller and a DT Journeywheel that will be for sale soon. I currently own a 30″ Ashford Elizabeth, a DT Lennox Bonnie, a ST Ashford Traveller that is on loan to a new spinner, and a ST Hitchhiker that was a gift from DH in 2006 as well as the Sabrina. I haven’t had this little wheel long but I have played with a couple of different types of fiber and I don’t think there is anything I would want to spin that I couldn’t spin on Sabrina. Good Morning all I hope everyone had a wonderful new years eve. I had alot of fun and I want to thank all of you who checked out the blog and left me a comment. I really enjoyed sharing my ‘Local Yarn Pusher” with you and I would love to learn more about yours. If you know of a shop that we would all love to learn about please let me know. I love to “help” others find gorgeous yarns and fibers. I usually manage to find some myself! )

My favorite Yarn Pusher and a New Year’s Eve Giveaway!!!

Welcome peeps!! I am very excited about the new blog and I want to Thank you for your feedback. Today I would like to introduce our first installment of Yarn Pushers with my favorite local fiber connection - Carole Foster of Foster Sheep Farm. Carole and her husband Tom have a flock of Romney and Wensleydale sheep that produce some gorgeous fiber!! The shop is a renovated farmhouse that is very warm and welcoming. We have quite the turn out at our weekly Thursday evening knit nights and the second Saturday of each month the Adirondack Spinners Guild meets at the shop. There’s always something happening on the farm and January will be no different. Shearing Day Open house is scheduled for January 8th and the following Saturday we will celebrate Rock Day with the spinners guild. Carole currently carries her own Foster Sheep Farm fiber and yarns as well as Berrocco, Lang, Noro Kureyon & Silk Garden, Ella Rae fingering & worsted. Kromski spinning wheels and looms are available and Carole also has yarn and fiber from other local fiber artists featured in the shop. I have posted some photos of the shop and I hope you will get a bit of the same warm & cozy feel from the photos that the shop gives off when you walk through the door. I encourage you if you get the chance make the trip and stop by I promise you won’t regret it and if you are not within driving distance give the shop a call anyway Carole is always more than willing to help.

Happy New Year!! and just because it’s a new year and I have a new blog I thought it would be fun to have a giveaway. I also posted some information about NaKniMitMo -(January is knit mitten month) in my last post and in honor of that Carole generously volunteered to donate the prize for our New years give away. Oh I am sooo jealous!! The winner will receive one skein of Ella Rae worsted and their choice of an in shop Ravelry pattern for mittens!!! Yeah!! Wacky Wednesday and New Year, New Knitting

Wacky Wednesday because well with Wednesdays you just never know. Smack in the middle of the week it could go either way. This Wednesday was pretty low key. Inbetween holidays lots of folks on vacation and work is pretty quiet.

I was perusing the forums on Ravelry and I came across this acronym- NaKniMitMo- now I will say I had seen it around before on Ravelry and posted on various blogs and didn’t know what it meant so I did a little investigating. NaKniMitMo stands for National Knit Mittens Month ie; January. Cool! It just so happens I have mittens on my needles in fact I have 2 pair in progress. There is a NaKniMitMo 2012 pattern for a gorgeous colorwork mitten but I doubt I will be cranking those out. Anybody up for some mitten knitting in January??? Check out the group on Ravelry!!

I am also working on getting some pics up in the next post and still looking for some feedback from you dear readers. Check back for a New Years eve post and a giveaway in the works!!!

Welcome to String Lingo where it’s all about fiber with a “twist”! I have wanted to blog for quite some time and finally I have decided to just “do it!” I am a forty-something wife of 23 years and working mom of a 21 yr old boy and a 16 yr old girl! I was recently forced into a career change and after 20 years in one industry I lost a management position because the business closed. I have started over and in this economy consider myself very lucky to have found a good admin asst job with great benefits and a solid organization. I have been spinning since 2001 and loving it! I am more recently a knitter (out of necessity as I have too much yarn) and have just discovered weaving on a Rigid Heddle Loom. This blog is for me to share my fiber journey but I also want your help! Let me know what you want to read about. I have plans so far for segments on Stress-free Spinning, Gnarly Knitting, Curious Crochet, Freaky Felt and my favorite upcoming spot–Yarn Pushers–this is where I will spotlight our favorite brick & mortar shops as well as our online enablers.
